Asphalt Overlay

Cost effective Pavement Soultions

An asphalt overlay is one of the quickest and most efficient forms of asphalt paving. An asphalt overlay is a paving method that consists of applying a new layer of bituminous paving to a damaged surface. This occurs instead of removing the original asphalt surface entirely but is not a suitable solution for all severities of asphalt surface damage.

The asphalt overlay generally occurs in 3-4 steps.

Asphalt Assessment

Your asphalt surface will undergo a top of the line evaluation before our crews begin. There are a number of reasons why an asphalt overlay wouldn’t be the best method for your surface. If there is severe pothole damage, poor water drainage, or another form of structural damage, the asphalt may need to be removed or regraded.

Asphalt Milling

Asphalt milling is a method of top layer removal that will help with cracking, asphalt raveling, or another form of asphalt deterioration. Typically, the asphalt milling machine will remove anywhere between 1-3 inches from the asphalt surface.

Base Repair

Often times, locations of potholes, asphalt sinkage, or other forms of more severe damage will require additional base repair. This ensures that the damage doesn’t recur after the new asphalt has been applied. (Please note base layer repair is subject to additional costs and labor.)

Asphalt Surface Paving

Finally, after the necessary steps have been performed to prepare the asphalt surface, the new paving can be completed. Traditionally, the amount of asphalt applied is between 1.5-2 inches thick. This creates a newly restored asphalt surface that functions and feels like new.
